Spiritual Insights-Fasting on the Word

The Gospel of Luke 4:3-4

Center Chapel, we are in the third day of our fast. The enemy will try to get us thinking about food and how hungry we are. We can use this to our advantage. When our flesh triggers the mind to think about food, use that as your que to engage with God. Tap into the Spirit of God that lives in your spirit.

We know from Scripture, Satan’s first attack on Jesus in the wilderness was food. We know by experience this is how he attacks us as well. With that in mind let’s look at Jesus’ counter attack.

Luke 4:3 “It is written, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word of God.”  Jesus points out bread or food is not the only thing we need for life. Bread does it part for the body. But life is more than the body. Life is lived from the body, but life is not the body. Jesus says along with food we need the Word of God. The Word feeds our spirit and the spirit is where true life is lived from. That is why Paul says, “Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom.” (II Cor. 2:17) Freedom refers to life. Jesus gives us the secret to life.  We need to approach this fast, by feeding on the Word of God. How much of the Word are you eating on this fast”? Let me encourage you to feast on, gorge your spirit on the Word.
